I knew something was up when The Breather approached me today and asked if I had any plans for lunch.
"No, not really," I said.
"Well, I should take you to lunch," he grunted.
This struck me as odd. He has NEVER offered to take me to lunch or even pick food up for me in the past. He usually disappears for an hour and a half at lunch, goes home and eats leftovers (or at least that is what he says he does).
So when he asked to take me to lunch I knew something was afoot.
"Well, It's more of a bribe," he explained. "I need a favor."
OH, great. Another one of Breather's "favors." You see, this is how he gets me to do stuff around the OOD. Instead of just coming out and asking me do to something like any normal boss would, he hems and haws and whines and says, "can you do me a faaavor."
So I asked, "what kind of favor?"
"Well, I need someone to take me to get my car. It's at the shop."
Ok, this is really not a big deal. I said I would take him.
He promised me that he would then pick up lunch for me afterwards. Then I asked when he needed to go.
"Oh, whenever you want to go."
Huh? Really? Grow a set and just say, hey, I need to be there by noon or something.
Ok. So I just waited, sufing the Net for a bit until i was "ready" to go.
We hopped in my car and drove the 15 minutes to his shop of choice (apparently he's been going to this mechanic for 14 years.)
There really isn't anything more awkward than being stuck in a car with your boss for 15 minutes. The moment you leave the confines of the ODD it's like you have nothing real to talk about.
I tried to chit chat about traffic, my apartment, my car....bullshit.
We finally made it to the shop and he got out.
Apparently they weren't completly finished with the job and it took another hour and a half for Breather to make good on his lunch bribe. But he eventually made it back to the office with Chinese food in hand.
It made me fee bad about all the bad stuff Lo and I say about him on here.......not really.
That was a beautiful moment, V. Fantastico. I would have gone for something more expensive than chinese. Next time be excited about his offer and suggest some fine dining experience. He'll have no idea what to do.
